Level 1 Diploma Carpentry and Joinery

There will be a combination of practical and theory sessions, which will enable you to gain good practical skills with underpinning job knowledge of Carpentry and Joinery. This Level 1 Certificate will give you a solid foundation in Carpentry and Joinery and prepare you to take further qualifications to develop your skills, knowledge and understanding within Carpentry and Joinery. You should undertake this qualification if you have some previous experience (e.g. work placement, working with family, summer job etc.).

    Following your application, we will invite you to an Applicants Event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. You will provide a copy of your last school report and / or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other. This is to ensure we can support you to be able to achieve well on the course. 3 x GCSE's at any grade including Maths and English or previous vocational qualification.   • Course Content


    There will be a combination of practical and theory sessions which will enable you to gain good practical skills with underpinning job knowledge of Carpentry and Joinery. Carpentry and Joinery is one of the most rewarding trades. A great deal of the work produced involves you using hand tools to work raw timber, creating something with little resemblance to the tree it came from. You will work towards achieving 6 units of competence throughout the year.

    Modules covered:

    Health and Safety Knowledge of technical information Knowledge of construction technology Producing Woodworking Joints Maintain and use carpentry hand tools Prepare and use portable power tools

    Functional Skills in Numeracy and Literacy are included in the Full Time programme. You will be given details of course materials, stationery and the health and safety equipment you will require when you enrol on the programme.
