Beauty

Heather Callaghan, 31, has completed her VRQ Diplomas in Beauty Therapy at Carshalton College and now works part time as a Beauty Therapist at the Beauty Rooms in Carshalton Beeches.

When joining the College in 2014, Heather was working full time as a primary school teacher. She had decided it was time for a change and to train in a new area after always wanting to be a beauty therapist. Heather remained teaching part time and studied at Carshalton College on Mondays and Tuesdays.

The Beauty Therapy Diplomas contain practical and theory units and Heather found the College offered a supportive environment with friendly and welcoming tutors. The class had students who were a mix of ages but they all bonded really well.

Heather feels lucky to have found the vacancy at the Beauty Rooms and her role as a Beauty Therapist. The salon contacted the college asking the beauty team to advertise a vacancy to the students. Heather’s tutors recommended her for the role, enabling Heather to continue studying for the Level 3 Diploma whilst applying her Level 2 knowledge in the workplace.

“I love the people aspect of being a Beauty Therapist, meeting new people and working in a salon environment. I genuinely enjoy giving all the treatments we provide at the Beauty Rooms. Working here has been better then I ever expected, I work with amazing colleagues and can see the potential to grow working here with all the training opportunities and opportunity to work on all the treatments we provide.”

For anyone interested in Beauty, Heather recommends training for your qualifications as a career in Beauty can be so varied

“There are so many different avenues with working in salons, spas or as a sales person or consultant. Everyday is so different and you get to meet so many different people. There is a lot of theory on the courses but the hard work in learning the units is all worth it.”
