Carshalton Jazz Club's opening night at new venue in Carshalton College debuted Keith Nichols and His Rhythmakers; a fitting debut for the sell-out crowd. Keith Nichols the renowned pianist put on a lively show with a strong musical line-up comprising Mike 'Magic' Henry (trumpet), Alistair Allen (trombone), from Australia Michael McQuaid (reeds), Martin Wheatley (guitar), Malcolm Sked (bass).

Head of College, Janet Smith commented: "It was an enjoyable evening of Traditional Jazz, the band were amazing and the College's Nightingales Restaurant was full to the rafters with people enjoying themselves. It was a natural choice for us to host Carshalton Jazz Club. The banjo cake we created to celebrate the launch, showcased the College's creative catering skills. It all builds a strong sense of community."

The line-up will be Graham Mintram's Groovin' High Big Band , a super 17-piece band featuring some of South London's top jazz musicians, specialising in classic and modern big band music from Count Basie, Buddy Rich, Frank Mantooth plus some original charts.

Carshalton College has been providing education and training, with specialist facilities and equipment, for over 60 years as the only Further Education College in Sutton
