Childcare & Early Years Educator

Tamara Appiah-Agyemang

Childcare Early Years Educator Level 3

Tamara joined Carshalton College in 2014 choosing a vocational route rather than A levels:

“I felt more comfortable choosing a practical course and thought it would be more enjoyable”.  I have really enjoyed the course so far learning, making friends and hve found the tutors helpful and dedicated.

Tamara started her work experience two days a week at Elmwood Nursery which is based at the College.

Nursery manager Margaret Grew said: “Tamara has demonstrated that she understands the children’s needs. She engages with activities appropriate to the child’s development. Tamara is quiet and works in a calm way and the children have formed attachments with her. Tamara is already part of the team confident in asking questions but able to work on her own initiative”.

Tamara is currently at the University of Roehampton studying BA (Hons) Degree in Primary Education with QTS (Qualified Teaching Status). This has included a placement in a primary school working with Year 5 pupils for 5 weeks and involved supporting and teaching pupils.

Tamara said about her college course

"In relation to the Early Years Educator (EYE) course, I have been able to use and build on the knowledge I gained during my two years at Carshalton. I have been able to build on my knowledge of theory and making effective observations. I have also been able to refer to previous coursework for support with assignments. My ability to reflect on my own practice has been strengthened and the teaching from the EYE course acted as a foundation for my teaching practice and professional development."
