Les joined Carshalton College on 18 September 1968 as a Laboratory Assistant on an annual salary of £705.
In 1970 the Principal recommended that he be promoted to a Technician due to the experience he had gained in the short time he had been with the College together with the professional manner in which he carried out his duties.
In 1975 he was promoted again to a Senior Laboratory Technician and after 10 years from his commencement at the College, and having completed his teaching qualifications, he took up the post of Lecturer.
"I was so fortunate to have the educational opportunities that the College provided me with. I was given a day release at that time, which allowed me to progress to a degree level qualification and hence being able to gain and teach in post and then further day release to get a recognised teaching qualification whilst “on the job”.
My range of teaching over the years has included: biology, chemistry, environmental sciences, photography and many more!!"
As you can imagine, Les has seen a number of changes over the years with the College and teaching a vast range of students over several decades. He often shares an array of stories and anecdotes of his experiences with his colleagues, long may he continue to do so!
Les is a valued member of staff and the College celebrated his achievements and amazing length of service at a small celebration on Monday 29 October where he was handing £250 of vouchers.
