McCharles Graham – Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care
After years of working in retail with no job satisfaction or personal fulfilment I began my journey into the caring profession. I always knew that working in health and social care was my true calling but I didn’t have any relevant experience or qualifications.
I enrolled at Carshalton College initially to achieve a Level 2 qualification and I volunteered in hospitals and residential care homes to gain invaluable experience. I knew, in order to climb up the career ladder into management I would need a heavy weight qualification.
Cut to now, I am partway through my Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care. I come to college one evening a week and one Saturday per month which works well if you have work or family commitments.
The teaching has been wonderful and delivered in a very interesting way. Tutors go the extra mile to make sure you are well supported and you have everything you need to succeed.
I enjoy studying with likeminded people. Listening to other students recounting what happened in their workplace and sharing good practice gives you great insight and keeps the learning relevant.
To get a degree in a subject that I love will give me great satisfaction and will open doors into managerial roles longer term.
