Carshalton College offers Full Time, Part Time and Apprenticeships in Sport. Please find below details about our students, opportunities they have had on the courses and where they have progressed to.
Brandon enrolled onto our Level 1 Sports Course 2 years ago and was a very enthusiastic and positive student. Statemented with autism, he didn’t let his learning difficulty effect his work and completed all his work ahead of schedule and to a good standard. Brandon progressed onto the Level 2 Sports Course, which included work placement hours 2 days a week at David Weir Leisure Centre in Carshalton. Brandon did so well during his work experience that the centre have offered him an Apprenticeship to start in September 2016. Brandon has also helped out at events and festivals with our Sports Development Team and both the staff and tutors have found him to be an outstanding worker.
Tom first enrolled onto the Level 1 Sports Course 3 years ago at the age of 20 and paid for his qualification. Tom then progressed onto the Level 2 Sports Course, which last year was a new trial for us as an NQF qualification that unfortunately was not a good success. However, Tom remained focused throughout and even assisted others with their work and in offering support. Tom further progressed onto our Level 3 Personal Trainer course and is doing very well. In addition, he has overcome difficulties in his personal life and with confidence issues and has been working alongside a very successful Gym Team in Surrey, who have allowed him to shadow and train some of their clients with a view to a placement later this year. Tom also writes a blog that covers nutrition and fitness ideas for students and friends to increase their knowledge of the benefits to exercise and a healthy lifestyle.
Mitchell first enrolled onto our Level 1 Sports Course 2 years ago and was extremely quiet, finding communication with peers and tutors very difficult. Mitchell always completed his work on time and well and was very polite when spoken to. Mitchell progressed onto the Level 2 Sports Course, which included work placement hours 2 days a week at Westcroft Leisure Centre. Mitchell worked really well and enjoyed all the departments and job roles he was given. This opened up his line of communication and improved his confidence massively. As a result, Mitchell was offered a permanent job role with the centre from September or casual weekend working hours, should he wish to accept it. Mitchell is currently deciding on remaining at college to embark on a Level 3 Sports Coaching course or to move into paid employment.
Viktoria enrolled onto our Level 3 Personal Trainer course in 2015. Viktoria has juggled childcare of a young baby with the course content and has worked hard to complete all her coursework. Viktoria attended an interview recently for a Fitness Instructor/Personal Trainer within Everyone Active Leisure Centres and has been offered the role.
Part of Anthony’s course this year was to attend work experience as a unit for a set number of hours. Anthony found a placement within a fitness organisation that works with a variety of special populations, including specialist training like kick boxing. Anthony went above and beyond the number of hours required for the course content and worked in his spare time to shadow the staff and gain as much experience as he could. This was recognised and the organisation requested Anthony teach some group exercise classes alongside their own team and work with smaller children in showing them kick boxing techniques, that Anthony is trained in . Anthony also did additional work experience hours at Pulse Gym, to which the staff all commended him highly on his knowledge and professionalism. Anthony is enrolling onto our Level 3 Personal Trainer Course in September and has also been offered part time work with his work experience placement company.
Tibor enrolled onto our Level 1 Sports Course 2 years ago and was a very enthusiastic and positive, though very quiet student. Tibor was studious and completed all his work ahead of schedule and to a good standard. Tibor progressed onto the Level 2 Sports Course, which included work placement hours 2 days a week at Cheam Leisure Centre. Tibor did so well during his work experience that the centre offered him a full time recreational assistant job role from September. Tibor also helped out at events and festivals with our Sports Development Team and both the staff and tutors have found him to be an outstanding worker.
