This course provides you with the opportunity to develop your Carpentry Skills from a basic level. You will also further your knowledge in Literacy and Numeracy. In addition there is a further unit of learning Personal Social Development (PSD).
Students on this course will be invited to attend cross-college events that will develop their job skills. Examples of previous events students have attended are:
Drug awareness, prevent, stop smoking, CV writing, healthy eating, sports activities and many more through our student services, learning centre and enterprise.
Site visits - Contractors include Berkley Homes, Barratt Homes and Willmott-Dixon who provide work experience.
A significant number of 16-18 learners complete work experience through local employers and through college based projects, gaining relevant skills to increase their employability.
Enrichment activities such as a football tournament and league in Pulse Sports Centre for construction and electrical students with medals for runner ups and winners including a cup, other activities include swimming, table tennis, and pool within the common room area.

Entry RequirementsTwo GCSEs at Grade D/3, E/2 or above together with a successful interview. A reference from a current course tutor or school will be required, with excellent behaviour and punctuality reports.

Duration1 year, 3 days per week - 15 hours in total
ProgressionSuccessful completion of ALL the course framework will allow you the opportunity to progress on to a higher level of course and also offers excellent training opportunities to assist in working towards a career in the Construction Industry.
Additional InformationStudents must provide their own Protection Equipment (overalls and safety boots). Practical classes cannot be completed without this important equipment
