Level 1 Diploma in Vocational Studies (Media)

This course enables you to develop your skills in media production and communication.

Students on this course will be invited to attend cross-college events that will develop their job skills. Examples of previous events students have attended are:

  • Skills London
  • Meet the Apprentice with the National Careers Service

Course Content and Job Skills

The course provides a foundation level understanding of work within Creative Industries. Learners will be introduced to working with digital video, interactive design and software as well developing skills.
The Diploma is designed to develop a range of employability skills and techniques, understanding personal qualities and attitudes essential for success in working life.

Entry Requirements

Minimum three GCSEs at grade A - E/9-2 to include English (essential), or you will have successfully completed an Entry Level 3 programme including Functional Skills in English.

A positive reference is also required from school, employer or a tutor - this must include attendance and punctuality.
You may also be asked to demonstrate your commitment and skills in an interview.


This course is designed for young people who want a good grounding in the work and opportunities of the media industry and the associated skills needed to progress onto media-related employment.
The course will also help learners develop their English, maths and employability skills, and gain a Level 1 qualification.


One year. (36 weeks)


Students are required to complete a portfolio (file) containing evidence of assignments, practical performance, presentations, group exercises and discussions..


After successful completion of the course, learners will be able to apply for a Level 2 course, subject to interview and grades achieved.
