NCFE CACHE Level 2 Apprenticeship Certificate for the Children and Young People’s Workforce (England)

The aim of this qualification is to prepare learners to work with children, from birth and 19 years.  Learners could also progress on to the CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Early Years Education and Care or the CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce.

Course Content

Learners must achieve a total of 35 credits. All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods. This could include direct observation within the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task set by CACHE. Some learning outcomes within this qualification will require assessment in a real work environment.

Apprenticeship Framework

  • Cache Level 2 Certificate in Children and Young People’s Workforce
  • Cache Level 2 Award in Employment Responsibilities and Rights in Children and Young people’s Settings
  • GCSE English D-E/3-2 grade or Functional Skill Level 1
  • GCSE Maths D-E/3-2 grade or Functional Skill Level 1
  • GCSE ICT D-E/3-2 grade or Functional Skill Level 1
  • PLTS (Achieved and evidenced)
  • Paediatric First Aid

Entry Requirements

This qualification is suitable for a range of learners from the age of 16 onwards who have little or no experience in childcare. Learners should have at least a grade D-E/3-2 in Maths and English GCSE or L1 in Functional skills and a clear DBS check. Learners should be working in the sector for at least 30 hours per week.


1 year, One afternoon/evening per week.


This qualification allows progression on to the CACHE Level 3 Early Years Educator qualifications and other Level 3 qualifications relating to child care.
