NCFE CACHE Level 3 Technical Award/Certificate/Diploma in Childcare and Education (Early Years Educator)

This Cache Level 3 course, allows learners to progress from the Award to the Diploma, in three stages. The CACHE Technical Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education (Early Years Educator) prepares learners to become Early Years Educators, enabling them to work with children from birth to 5 years and gain knowledge of children aged 5 to 7 years

Content and Job Skills

Some of the  units covered:

  • Child development from conception to seven years
  • Children’s health and well-being
  • Providing safe environments for children
  • Play and learning
  • Understanding children’s additional needs
  • Observation, assessment and planning
  • Supporting emergent literacy
  • Child health

Learners must achieve:

  • All assignments and gain at least a pass.

 

Duration

2 Years, Three days per week in college, two days on placement 

Entry Requirements

An average of Grade 4/C for four or more GCSEs including English Language, or successful completion of a Level 2 vocational programmel, plus a literacy programme at Level 2. Applicants may also be asked to demonstrate their commitment and skills in an interview. A DBS disclosure is required for this course.

  • A valid Passport, Birth Certificate or Provisional Driving Licence (one of these)
  • Your National Insurance Number
  • Two letters to you as proof of your current address - for example: bank statement, benefit statement, utility bill, letter from Head Teacher at your previous school (two of these)

Please note if you have lived at your current address for less than five years, your previous addresses will be required and dates for the duration of your residence.

Assessment

In order to achieve the Level 3 Award in Childcare and Education learners must achieve a pass grade for 2 mandatory units.

In order to achieve the Technical Level 3 Certificate in Childcare and Education learners must achieve a pass grade D/3 in the externally set, internally assessed unit assessments for 7 mandatory units. Learners must also achieve a pass grade D/3 or above for the external assessment CCE1 (externally set, externally assessed).

In order to achieve the Technical Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education (Early Years Educator) learners must achieve a pass grade in the externally set, internally assessed unit assessments for 14 mandatory units.

Learners must also achieve a pass grade D/3 or above for the external assessments CCE1 and DCE2 (externally set, externally assessment).

 

CACHE suggests that the following placement allocation is applied.

We acknowledge that some learners may need to spend longer in specific age ranges and for this reason there is a degree of flexibility. All assessment criteria must be achieved and each age range must be experienced. Significant placement experience across the age ranges must be undertaken in order to achieve the assessment

 Placement

A portfolio of evidence is built up using a variety of methods for example reflective accounts, direct observation, research tasks and professional discussion.

Progression

Upon achievement of this qualification it is intended that learners will be able to access higher education or enter the workforce as Early Years Educators. This qualification confers the licence to practice as an Early Years Educator.

UCAS Points

NB: The points awarded to these qualifications under the new UCAS Tariff (‘Tariff 2017’) are equivalent to the points awarded under the previous UCAS Tariff. For example, 168 points at A*/9 for the Diploma is equivalent to 420 points at A*/9 under the previous Tariff.

UCAS 2

Upon achievement of the Level 3 Diploma qualification learners will gain their license to practice and it is intended that learners will be able to enter the workforce as Early Years Educators or progress to higher education. Learners can progress into various job roles in the statutory, voluntary or private sectors such as:  

Practitioner in day nurseries  

Practitioner in nursery schools  

Practitioner in reception classes in primary schools  

Pre-school worker
