GCSE Maths

To be accepted on this GCSE you must demonstrate a commitment to completing the programme of study. This will be discussed and assessed at application. You will undertake a BKSB assessment to confirm suitability.

 

Course Content

The GCSE Mathematics helps students develop a knowledge and understanding of:

  • problem solving
  • reasoning
  • applying maths in context
  • the functional elements of maths

 

There are 6 main areas:

  • Number
  • Algebra
  • Ratio, proportion and rates of change
  • Geometry and measures
  • Probability
  • Statistics

Assessment

written paper: 1 hour 30 minutes
80 marks
non-calculator
33⅓% of the GCSE Mathematics assessment

Entry requirements

Grade D at GCSE or the equivalent

Duration

1 Year, 3 Hours per week

Progression

This course is particularly suitable for students who wish to progress to A-level Mathematics or other high level qualifications. It is particularly suitable for adults who wish to or who are taking an Access programme (link to CD1064 Access to Higher Education Diploma: Health and Human Sciences or CD5012 Access to Higher Education Diploma: Midwifery) . 
Can be taken alongside CD8350 GCSE in Science B (Science in Context) for students wishing to apply for Health and Social Care / Nursing university places.
