This qualification is designed for learners who want to enter the plumbing industry, but who are not yet at the stage to study the Level 2 Plumbing qualification.
Within the course you will also further your knowledge in literacy and numeracy.
Students on this course will be invited to attend cross-college events that will develop their job skills. Examples of previous events students have attended are:
Drug awareness, prevent, stop smoking, CV writing, healthy eating, sports activities and many more through our student services, learning centre and enterprise.
Guest speakers from - Renlon, Rail track, NIC, NAPIT, JIB and ECA, educational and historical trips to brick manufacturers, Wealden and Down, Chatsworth House, Royal Pavilion, Hampton Court and Winsor Castle to name just a few.
Learners also attend exhibitions such as IFSEC, ELEX, NIC and London ExCel Centre.
Site visits - Contractors include Berkley Homes, Barratt Homes and Willmott-Dixon.
A significant number of 16-18 learners complete work experience through local employers and through college based projects, gaining relevant skills to increase their employability.
Enrichment activities such as a football tournament and league in Pulse Sports Centre for construction and electrical students with medals for runner ups and winners including a cup. Other activities include swimming, table tennis, and pool within the common room area.
Course Content and Job SkillsThe course includes hands-on practical training and assessment in plumbing. You will use a variety of hand tools, equipment and materials. You will be working with both copper and plastic piping and learn to use various joints and plumbing systems.
Entry RequirementsGCSEs at a minimum grade D/3 in maths and english are required, the candidate will also need to:
- Demonstrate your commitment and skills in an interview.
- Have an 90% attendance on current course or at school.
- Behaviour and punctuality must be excellent and a reference from current course tutor or school will be required.
SuitabilityThis course is aimed to provide you with the necessary skills to carry out a wide range of work required to be a plumber.
Duration1 year, 3 days per week / 16 hours
Additional InformationStudents must provide their own Personal Protection Equipment (overalls and safety boots). Practical classes cannot be completed without this important equipment.
