This course is provides you with a further opportunity to develop your Plumbing skills. Within the course you will also further your knowledge in Literacy and Numeracy.
Students on this course will be invited to attend cross-college events that will develop their job skills. Examples of previous events students have attended are:
Drug awareness, prevent, stop smoking, CV writing, healthy eating, sports activities and many more through our student services, learning centre and enterprise.
Guest speakers from - Renlon, Rail track, NIC, NAPIT, JIB and ECA, educational and historical trips to brick manufacturers, Wealden and Down, Chatsworth House, Royal Pavilion, Hampton Court and Winsor Castle to name just a few.
Learners also attend exhibitions such as IFSEC, ELEX, NIC and London ExCel Centre.
Site visits - Contractors include Berkley Homes, Barratt Homes and Willmott-Dixon.
A significant number of 16-18 learners complete work experience through local employers and through college based projects, gaining relevant skills to increase their employability.
Enrichment activities such as a football tournament and league in Pulse Sports Centre for construction and electrical students with medals for runner ups and winners including a cup, other activities include swimming, table tennis, and pool within the common room area.
Course Content and Job SkillsYou will use a variety of hand tools, equipment and materials. You will be working with both copper and plastic piping and learn to use various joints and plumbing systems.
Entry RequirementsTwo GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above are required, the candidate will also need to:
- Demonstrate your commitment and skills in an interview.
- Have an 85% attendance on current course or at school
- Behaviour and punctuality must be excellent and a reference from current course tutor or school will be required.
SuitabilityThis course is aimed to provide you with the necessary skills to carry out a wide range of work required to be a plumber.
Duration1 year, 3 days per week - 15 hours
ProgressionThis course provides excellent training for work in the construction industry. Successful completion will allow you to progress onto the next level.
Additional InformationStudents must provide their own Personal Protection Equipment (overalls and safety boots). Practical classes cannot be completed without this important equipment.
