What support is available for Childcare?

All 3 and 4 year-olds and some 2 year olds are entitled to up to 30 hours of free education each week for 38 weeks of the year.

If you are a young parent under the age of 20 at the start of your course, you could be eligible for the Care2 Learn scheme. Please contact Student Bursary Support Service: www.gov.uk/care-to-learn Phone: 0300 303 8610

Am I eligible for a Childcare Bursary with South Thames Colleges Group?

To be eligible, you must meet the same criteria from either the 19+ Discretionary Learner Support Fund or The Advanced Learner Loan Bursary and:

  • be aged 20 or over at the start of your course
  • Use an Ofsted registered and public liability insured Childcare provider.

Funding is limited and will be awarded on a first come first served basis. Priority will be given to students who are progressing with South Thames College Group and were in receipt of a childcare bursary in the previous academic year.

Please note that this is a limited fund. Students will need to meet the eligibility criteria and maintain a minimum of 85% attendance to receive support. Submission of an application does not guarantee funding.

Childcare payments

The Childcare bursary will be paid directly to the provider, once per half term.

See the applying for a bursary section on this page for more details on the application process.
