Lucia joined Kingston College in September 2023 enrolling on our T Level - Education and Early Years, a two year course equivalent to A Levels, Apprenticeships and other 16 to 19 vocational courses. T Levels focus on vocational skills and, along with a 45-day industry placement, can help students into skilled employment, higher study or an Apprenticeship.

Lucia says: I chose to do the T Level - Education and Early Years because I have always wanted to be able to work with children and help them learn. Growing up I found a huge appreciation towards my carers in school which encouraged me to be able to make other children feel the same.

Why did you choose Kingston College? The College was recommended to me by a friend who had been here before and thought it was a good College. It was also out of my area and comfort zone and I wanted to make new friends and experience new things.

Favourite part of your course? My favourite part of this course is being able to go on placement and work with children in a setting and be considered a teacher. I also enjoy learning the theoretical side which can explain our thought processes as students.

Is College life what you expected? College life is different to what I’m used to, however I enjoy being here with my friends and wouldn’t change it for anything.

Any advice to those thinking about applying for your course? The course requires a lot of dedication and drive. You will succeed best if you are passionate. I would also advise enrolling on the course if you understand the role and responsibility of looking after children as it is more complex than expected.

Any opportunities you’ve enjoyed here that you particularly loved? I’ve enjoyed being able to create our own nursery for T Levels. I also love being able to go on trips such as to the Science Museum and Go Ape.

Any amazing tutors or met great new friends? My tutors are amazing and extremely caring towards us which I greatly appreciate. I have made good friends with everyone on the course.
